Speak for Success

By Dana Bristol-SmithLast week I was given the opportunity to interview Marcus Buckingham, best-selling author and management guru, about his newest book Find Your Strongest Life - What the Happiest and Most Successful Women Do Differently.

by Dana Bristol-Smith Be prepared. That’s the Boy Scout motto and it’s really good advice when it comes to giving presentations. Of course you’ve prepared your presentation. You know where you will deliver it, how many people will be there, and how long you have to speak. Perhaps you’ve even sent your PowerPoint ahead of time so that it could be loaded into the system and tested. And, of course you have a backup copy with you, just in case.

By Dana Bristol-SmithI’ve learned that tackling the things that we fear in life gives us options and opens doors that we might not even have known exist.

by Dana Bristol-Smith Just about every communication consultant, trainer, coach, or speaker I have heard, always quotes a study done by Albert Mehrabian from UCLA which supposedly concluded that how you look and how you sound are more important than what you actually say.I’m sick of hearing it!

By Dana Bristol-SmithSo many people want to become speakers. They think it's a great way to earn a living, be the center of attention, and live glamorously. After being a speaker and trainer for the last 10 years, I have a different opinion. I believe that the only reason to become a speaker is to empower and educate others. If our content isn't doing that we shouldn't be speaking in public!

I love it when I read someone who shares my beliefs but is bolder in expression of them than I am. Author, Seth Godin has once again nailed it when talking about how presenters best connect with their audiences. He comes right out and says " The presenter who loves his audience the most, wins." Thanks, Seth for your love! DanaBy Seth Godin 1. Respect (from the audience)
